What it is

An agriculture and horticulture trade exhibition at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, running for three days at the start of October. It sits in the part of the country where protected cultivation is densest, which is what makes it worth the journey for a grower rather than only for a trader.

Why it matters if you are planning a project

A structure is the largest single line in most horticulture projects, and the gap between the cost norm and the market price is the thing that decides your bill. A hall full of builders is the fastest way to collect real quotes for the same specification, and quotes are what turn a norm into a plan.

Take the national cost norms with you. Our comparison of what a polyhouse and a net house actually cost against those norms sets out what the same 50% rule returns on each structure — roughly 50% on a net house and 16% on fan and pad — and it is a good sheet to hold a quote against.

What to ask on the floor

  • The price per square metre for the exact structure you want, at the size you want, in writing.
  • Whether the material specification meets the standards the guidelines require, because a claim can fail on that alone.
  • What the builder has supplied against a sanctioned Mission or Board project before, and in which state.

Before you commit to anything there

Approval comes before construction. A structure already standing is generally not eligible, so a deal signed at a show should be conditional on the sanction, never the other way round. Karnataka’s own department page is here, and what it publishes is worth reading first — it is the most usable state document we have found.
